The Last Turn

Two weeks ago we introduced you to FLATSIXES.com's newest contributor, Leonard Turner.  His first contribution was a smashing success and we thank all of you who took the time to email or comment.  For those of you who missed the original announcement, Leonard was Porsche Panorama’s chief photographer for some 40 years. His photographs have been published in numerous books and magazines including Autoweek, Road & Track, Automobile, Christophorus, and Excellence (just to name a few).  It was with this background in mind that we asked Leonard to open his archives to you and share them here on FLATSIXES.com.  Our plan is to share one of Leonard's images with you every other week, along with the story behind it, in our newest feature, "The Last Turn".  Read more of the story behind the picture that features a line-up of 993s during their press introduction, two decades ago, in 1993.

Here's A Step By Step Video Guide Showing The Best Line Around Sebring In A 911 RSR

The "full circuit" at Sebring International Raceway is legendary for the toll it takes on both car and driver. Over 3.74 miles, through 17 turns, competitors bump and grind over one of the oldest, continuously operating race tracks in the U.S.  In their quest for the checkered flag, every competitor strives for the best "line" (the fastest way around a given track). In this video, Sebring overall winner, Jim Pace, narrates his way through two hot-laps in a 1974 Porsche 911 RSR 3.0. Watch as he overtakes much faster cars.

62 GT3 Cup Cars + 45 Minutes + Le Mans = New World Record
Porsche's history in Le Mans is more storied than any other marque. The relationship began in 1951 when a Porsche 356 finished 20th overall. Nearly 20 years later Porsche took their first overall victory with a 917. Since then, they've gone on to make history with more wins than any other manufacture (16 total). And while their 2014 return might not have seen the perfect results fans wanted, they still made history, and set a world record, in the Porsche Carrera Cup race at Le Mans. Learn more in this post.
