The Brumos Porsche B59 Story
It was 2011 when Brumos and Porsche came together to create five factory-built special edition 911s.  Each Carrera GTS was designed to honor Hurley Haywoods achievements behind the wheel of Brumos #59.  Known as the B59 all five were quickly picked-up by avid Porsche fans and collectors.  Three years after the fact, filmmaker Frazer Spowart set out across the US to document the story of the B59's creation and speak with each owner.  Not only are all five of these special 911s used, they sit amongst some stunning car collection.  Watch for yourself and see what we mean.

Check Out The Mechanical Magic Porsche Uses To Open And Close The New Targa's Top
When Porsche introduced the new 911 Targa at Detroit we were mesmerized by the way the top worked.  We sat and watched it appear and disappear, spell bound.  Once we came out of the trance we noticed a deluge of emails coming in from readers.  Everyone was in love with the top but scared that it was too complex and would be a maintenance nightmare.  The fact is the new Targa top, while revolutionary in its kinematics, is based on tried and true technology that Porsche's usrd for years.  Check out this video and see the mechanics behind the magic.  They are much more simple than you think.
How Did The Porsche 991 GT3 Do At The World Car Awards?
In recent years, the World Car Awards have been gaining momentum, and are now seen as equal or superior to either the North American and European car of the year awards. The WCAs are presented each year, divided into four categories: Car Design, Green Car, Performance Car, and Car of the Year. The new 991 GT3 has come under "fire" lately for a potential problem that could lead to the car self-immolating with little warning. However, Porsche seems to have handled the problem with aplomb.

Win A Copy Of Porsche "911 x 911"
Porsche's 50th Anniversary of the 911 has come and gone, but that doesn't mean you can't still benefit from all the goodness surrounding their golden jubilee.  This week, thanks to David Bull Publishing, we have a copy of the Porsche Museum's commemorative book on the 50 years of the 911 to give away.  Originally planned for last summer the book didn't actually make it onto shelves until Christmas time of 2013. In fact, we didn't get our copy until last month.  Let me tell you, it was worth the wait! Nearly 1000 pages featuring every generation of the 911 awaits you in this gorgeously designed and bound "deluxe scrapbook".  Assembled to Porsche's exacting standards this book is available exclusively at the Porsche Museum and certain booksellers in the U.K.

Priced at $99.95 here in the U.S., you can only buy it from David Bull Publishing or win a copy here on FLATSIXES.com. If you would like to win a copy simply find the answers to the following two questions:

1. Who Is The Author Of "Porsche 917 x 17"?
2. How many pages are in "911 x 911"?

Then email us your answers, along with your full name and shipping address by Sunday May 4th (if you have trouble with the email link you can use our contact form).  Will pick one random winner from the correct entries and announce the winner in our newsletter on May 6th.  Your copy will ship directly from David Bull.  While anyone can participate, we can only ship to locations in the U.S. and Canada.
"The Sunday Of Our Return"

Today, Porsche Introduced Their First 4-Cylinder Since 1995. No One Seemed To Notice...
The last production flat-four from Porsche was in the 1976 912E.  The last inline four-cylinder was the 1995 968.  For the first time in nearly 20 years, Porsche introduced a four-cylinder engine in a production vehicle;  the new base Macan (coming in below the Macan S) built specifically for the Chinese market.  What's interesting is that no one seemed to notice.  Maybe it's because it was expected.  Or, maybe it's because it's a world away in China.  However, China is Porsche's 2nd largest single market after the U.S. With the introduction of this new Macan (along with three new Panamera models just for China) we expect those positions will flip-flop next year and China's influence will be that much greater.  You would think more people would take notice, wouldn't you? Watch the intro here.
These Porsche 911s Are Made Of Yogurt

Since being named as a Porsche global ambassador we've seen Maria Sharapova in LA helping to introduce the new Macan and then again this past March when she presented the Porsche Panamera GTS "by Maria Shrapova". Now, in conjunction with her 27th birthday celebration, Maria revealed a new line of product: "Speedy" - the latest creation of Sugarpova, Sharapova's premium candy brand.

The Rule Of Fuel At The 24 Hours of Le Mans

Last week's video explained how each car in the LMP1 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is allotted a certain amount of fuel per lap of the race. Today's video explains exactly how this fuel consumption is measured and its impact on a team's overall performance and how they could be penalized for using too much fuel during the race. In other words, Porsche's overall strategy plays an even bigger role than normal at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

One Of The Best Private Porsche Collections In The World Is Now Open To The Public
When we first visited the Collier Collection in Naples Florida we were disappointed when our tour guide asked us not to publish any of the pictures. Since 1994 this amazing "collection" of significant and historic automobiles (with a heavy slant toward Porsche) has been closed to the public with access available only to scholars, researchers, students and certain car club members. At the time we were told the reason it was private might be due to certain tax implications with regard to how the "collection" was treated. Whatever the cause, something changed and one of the most coveted and well curated group of Porsches and other marques is no open to the public.  Learn more about the Porsches you can expect to see on your visit, when to go and what it will cost you.
