Is Spyder Creations' 550 as Good as the Real Thing?

Last weekend an original 550 Spyder sold for $3.75MM in Mecum's auction at Pebble Beach. With prices like that an original 550 is out-of-reach for practically everyone.  What about a replica? There are good ones and not so good ones.  Spyder Creations has built a 550 they say is as close to the original as possible.  FLATSIXES.com's Roger Garbow had the chance to drive one, and talk to the builders, and they're not exaggerating.

There was a lot of money in the room during the Gooding auction on Saturday night. Porsches and other marques were hammering sold at record prices one after another. So, it's no wonder that when Magnus Walker's 1972 Porsche 911 T "STR II" rolled across the stage that the bidding was brisk.  Pre-auction estimates valued the Porsche at $125,000 to $150,000.  We suggested they were way too low.  We were right! UPDATE: Since we originally created this email quite a bit has transpired.  We just finished talking to the owner (Guy) and if you click through we'll tell you how the internet helped to recover his stolen Porsche. 

All Porsche's are special, but some stick with you longer than others.  That was the case with Guy Newmark's 1964 Porsche 356C we first learned about back in June. Guy's dad bought the Porsche brand new and it's been in his family ever since;  a daily driver for the past 40 years.  Last Friday night, someone stole Guy's 356 from his Garage in San Pedro, CA.  For more details, and information on how you can help recover it, click here or on the image above.
