What Was the Porsche Prototype That Caught Fire in Germany?

Reports of a fire involving an "alternative drive" Porsche prototype in the home garage of a Porsche employee have started to make the rounds online.   There's not a huge amount of official information available yet, but we've been able to piece together details from German edition publications and a statement from Porsche to Dow Jones.

Turns Out All the Rumors Were True!

For the past few months rumors have circulated about Mark Webber leaving Formula 1 and moving over to Porsche to drive their new LMP1 at Le Mans in 2014.  No one thought it would happen.  After all, who leaves F1.  Well, turns out the allure of driving Porsche's newest sport prototype was too strong as Porsche announced this morning that they have officially signed Webber starting with the 2014 season.

We receive a number of emails from readers wanting to know our opinion on the Porsche Cayenne and if it is truly an off-road capable vehicle. We tell each one of them the same two things: 1. We like the Cayenne so much we bought one for ourselves  as a utility vehicle to haul our boat, travel with our dogs and as a test bed for this site. 2. The Porsche Cayenne can handle off-road challenges that would destroy most other vehicles in the same class.
