We've been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we've seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week's mix is a collection of possible bargains, including one of the cheapest 911s we could find, an air-cooled cabriolet that's not what it appears to be, a Speed Yellow 911 we're strangely drawn to and a special Cayman many may have forgotten about. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good. 

As you know by now, we never like to give away the race results in our newsletter. I've had a transaxle Porsche in the past, mine an early production 944 with manual steering. That is but the one car I regret having sold, as it was equal parts pretty, fun, and cheap to run. I've always had a soft spot for narrow-body 924s with their non-interference cylinder heads. Sure they're a bit down on power to my 944, but they drive quite similarly, and certainly the interior is familiar. 

  

Despite Porsche's growing production numbers, their quality remains strong. In fact 5 Porsche models were honored in the 2015 J.D. Power Initial Quality Study and the marque itself ranked 2nd overall in 2016. That's why, whenever we hear of a recall, no matter how big or small, we take note. This week we learned of two different recalls.  The first was an airbag related recall on just under one hundred 718s and 911 variants. The other, much larger voluntary safety recall, involves more than 16,000 sports cars. You can find the details on each by clicking the links above or the box below. 

  

The depth and breadth of Leonard Turner's Porsche archive continues to astound me.  Every other week, Leonard's "The Last Turn" gets published on FLATSIXES.com along with a narrative so clear and descriptive that it's as if you're there with Leonard as he made the picture.  In other words, if you're only looking at the pictures in the newsletter and not clicking through to read his thoughts, you're missing the best part.

When I first saw this video, it was just a clip of the run through the Starbucks' drive thru. I was hooked with that.  Then, just yesterday, I saw the "extended" version which showed even more "practical" ways you could make use of Launch Control. At that point I had to share. The video itself holds no practical value. It's just a great way to blow 90 seconds of your day...

The Endurance racing season is in full swing, and Porsche is off to a strong start. Herbeth Motorsports' GT3R scored a victory at the Dubai 24 Hours, and you can see how the new 911 RSR performed at the Daytona 24 Hours in this post. The next major event is the Bathurst 12 Hours on February 5th, and Porsche will be represented by Walkinshaw GT3, Competition Motorsports and 5 factory drivers.

 

Romain Dumas is in his element on both the tarmac and snow and ice. After winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA World Endurance Championship with the Porsche 919 Hybrid, the Porsche factory driver was off to participate in the Monte Carlo Rally: At the wheel of his own Porsche 911 GT3 RS, he and co-driver Gilles de Turckheim braved the elements for another impressive performance.

Over the years we've reported on all sorts of dumb criminals. In fact, the variety and scope is almost mind boggling. However, with the advent of social media and the ability for criminals themselves to share their antics and incriminate themselves, we've reached a new level of stupidity.
