The Evolution of Porsche Disc Brakes

There are a number of qualities and features that instantly identify a Porsche to those in the know. That solid thunk you get when you close the driver's side door, the evolutionary yet still iconic design of a 911s rear-end and the ability to reverse the spin of the earth when you step hard enough on the brakes. It's a feeling that never fades and has yet to be replicated in any other production car that I can think of. This brute-force, almost surreal braking experience is no coincidence. Instead, it's an evolution of Porsche's racetrack to road technology development. Here's a quick look at the evolution of Porsche disc brakes.

Head 2 Head: 2017 Corvette Grand Sport vs. Porsche 911 Carrera S
It seems the automotive world has found a replacement for the Godzilla vs. 911 rivalry. It's not that Corvette vs. Porsche is anything new, it's just that it seems to be getting more and more attention lately. Between Corvette's near dominance in this season's IMSA Sports Car Championship and Chevy openly trying to lure Porsche buyers to the dark side, I guess it's only natural for comparisons like this to pop-up.

Our Favorite Porsches on eBay: Volume 76
We've been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we've seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week's mix is an eclectic collection of air-cooled, water-cooled, armored and scaled. One of which we're pretty sure could literally crush any competition. Keep in mind, some of these Porsches could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

Does Driving a Singer Porsche Ruin All Other 911s?
By now, Porsche 911s customized by Singer (don't you dare call it a Singer Porsche) have been reviewed ad nauseam. Chris Harris has driven one for /Drive in the past, Car and Driver explained the manufacturing process and Jay Leno got into the fray during an episode of Jay Leno's Garage. Hell, even Larry Kosilla documented how to detail a Singer. In other words, we've seen this before. Surprisingly, what basically amounts to another commercial for Singer is still fun to watch. Mainly because the end product that Singer creates when they "reimagine" a 911 is just that outstanding. It's hard to get tired of it. Watch the video and see for yourself

Slideways: The Only Way to Drive a Rally 911
Are you a fan of Rally Porsches? Ok, stupid question. Who isn't? What was it that first drew you to them? For Jim Goodlett it was the introduction of Hot Wheels. Jim says, "they literally transported me out of the house, and had me imagining a world where "slideways" was the only way you drove." Jim looks at a Rally car as a conversation starter that opens him to a community of like minded people. Check out this beautifully shot short video from Rennfilms featuring Jim and his passion for his 911 Rally car.

The Last Turn - Ever Wonder How Those Pit Stop Action Shots Are Made?
We see them all the time, action shots of pit crews swarming all over a Porsche during a race.  It always looks like the photographer must be right there with the crew. But how do they do it? How do they capture the shot and commit the cardinal sin of being in the way? Porsche photographer Leonard Turner explains just what it takes to capture the frenzy of a pit stop without impeding the team or putting anyone at risk in this episode of The Last Turn

The Porsche 911 by Way of Bugatti
Bugatti's designers seem to have an affection for the 911. Achim Anscheidt, the brand's head of design drives a backdated '82 911. While Achim's car looked at the model's past, Chiron designer Sasha Selipanov looks at the model's future. Rather than increasing the size of the bulging wheelarches, or fussing with the light layout within the familiar round housings, these renders change the whole approach to the model. This series of sketches and renderings by Selipanov offer a radical take on the model's future evolution.

Guy Newmark's Now Infamous 356 Finally Reached 1,000,000 Miles
The Porsche world at large was first introduced to Guy Newmark and his 1964 Porsche 356C back in June of 2013. At the time, Petrolicious ran a story on Guy's Porsche, affectionately known as "Blue", and described how it was a testament to the reliability of Stuttgart's engineering. After nearly 50-years of consecutive ownership Blue had received 3 engine rebuilds and was closing in on the 1,000,000 mile mark. Then, tragedy struck and Guy's beloved 356 was stolen. Fortunately for him, the internet came to the rescue and Blue was found within 3-days mostly unharmed. Fast forward 3-years to today and Porsche just released this video. In it, Guy explains his love affair with his 356 and what it means to have finally hit the 1,000,000 mile mark.

Porsche to Introduce New Panamera V6 and Executive Model in LA
Porsche introduced us to the redeveloped second generation of the Panamera earlier this year with the unveiling of the Panamera 4S, Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and the Panamera Turbo. Today, Porsche announced they will present a new 330 hp V6 turbo gasoline powered Panamera, along with an extended wheelbase Executive version, at the LA Auto Show next week. Here's what we know so far

Set Your DVR: 2 of the World's Best Known Porsche Celebrities Visit Jay Leno's Garage
Porsches are nothing new on Jay Leno's garage. Jay himself is a big fan of our favorite marque and over the years he's featured everyone from Magnus Walker to John Willhoit. This week's upcoming episode, however, is a bit different. With the help of both Jerry Seinfeld and Patrick Dempsey Jay tries to prove the old saying, "you can restore a car a million times, but it's only original once." Here's are a couple of teaser clips plus info on when the full episode will air

How Nathalie McGloin Went From Paraplegic to Porsche Racer
The U.K. has granted some 10,000 racing licenses in total. Of those, only 200 are women. Nathalie McGloin is the first and only woman with a spinal industry to be awarded one. In this latest video from Carfection we learn how Nathalie found herself in a wheelchair, why she ended up behind the wheel of a Porsche, how she controls the car on the track with no movement in her legs and what she's doing to help motivate others with similar spinal injuries. Porsche Stories From Around The Web
Despite our best efforts, it's not always possible for us to cover everything that's happening in the world of Porsche at any given time. It's almost as if the items worthy of note increase at some exponential rate as compared to the number of new Porsche owners and fans.  With that in mind here's a round-up of other Porsche related stories you might find of interest.  If you read a story somewhere, or know of one you think might be of interest to our readers, please be sure to let us know by sending a tip to storyideas@flatsixes.com
