The New Porsche Experience Center in LA is Now Open

While the grand opening of the Porsche Experience Center in LA is still a few weeks away (we're going out by invitation from Porsche), Porsche is using the time between now and then as a "soft opening" (the first day open to the public was October 28th). Everything you could want to do is ready and open for business (restaurants, track, simulators, etc.) it's just that they'll use this time to work out any "kinks". We'll have lots more coverage from the Grand Opening, but for now, here's a look at what you'll find in LA (including candid shots from their soft opening), how it differs from Atlanta and how you can plan your own visit.

Junkyard 996 with LS3 Swapped Engine vs. 991 Turbo S
I can't say I've been a big fan of Fast N' Loud on the Discovery Channel, but I did enjoy this most recent episode.  In it, the team from Gas Monkey Garage snagged a 2000 996 with a blown engine and decided to swap in a 495 horsepower LS3 V-8. Like most things on the show, it didn't go as smoothly as hoped, but the end result was a fairly formidable machine.  In the end they decided to test it against a new Turbo S and the results might surprise you. You can get more details on the build and watch the drag race in this post. There's also a link to the full episode for those interested.

Our Favorite Porsches on eBay: Volume 72
We've been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we've seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. This week we have a good diversity of selections including an almost fully depreciated 997 Carrera Cabriolet, two 944s (one normal aspirated, one with forced induction), a 914-6 that comes with two engines including the original, and a Grand-Am era 911 cup car with a winning provenance. Keep in mind, some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

The Last Turn - Linge on the Gaisberg
East of Salzburg, Austria, is a mountain called the Gaisberg that is a legend in European racing. With a hillclimb racing history that goes back into the 1920s, it was the site of Porsche’s first European Hillclimb championship in 1959 and the site where the image of Porsche legend Herbert Linge was taken in 2008.  In this installment of The Last Turn, Porsche photographer Leonard Turner gives the back-story behind the driver, the Porsche, this famous location and why he was there

The Logistics of Managing a Collection of More Than 600 Porsches
At any given time there are about 80 different cars on display at the Porsche museum in Stuttgart. That might sound like a lot, but it's just a small fraction of the more than 600 vehicles in their overall collection. In addition to the cars on display, the team at the Porsche Museum handles the deployment of over 200 vehicles to more than 30 countries as part of Porsche's "Rolling Museum". Their newest special exhibit, Roadbook, takes us behind the scenes on how they manage the logistics of shipping and moving these priceless vehicles all over the world. Details in this post

Porsche Stories From Around The Web
Despite our best efforts, it's not always possible for us to cover everything that's happening in the world of Porsche at any given time. It's almost as if the items worthy of note increase at some exponential rate as compared to the number of new Porsche owners and fans.  With that in mind here's a round-up of other Porsche related stories you might find of interest.  If you read a story somewhere, or know of one you think might be of interest to our readers, please be sure to let us know by sending a tip to storyideas@flatsixes.com
