A Texas Tango With the 718 Twins: 2017 Boxster & Cayman Review

I busied myself with ashing a half-Lucky Strike when the phone rang. On the other end was a dame called 'opportunity'. She was a hard one to turn down, always looking to get into trouble, but with her it was always a good time. "Get on a plane, get yourself to Austin, Texas", she said, "I've got a job for you". I paint myself a skeptic, and the stakes are higher than I'm comfortable with, but the payoff is worth it.

Trying to keep my calm I say, "Oh yeah? What's the job?". As it happens some German miscreant has absconded with two of the new 718's pistons and with them have gone perhaps some of its verve. She wants me to question some folks, to get the whos and whys of the situation. In return I'm promised a day with what could be the best sports cars Germany can churn out, and a day poking around one of the most impressive automobile racing facilities in the world, let alone America. When Porsche beckons, you don't keep her waiting.

Our Favorite Porsches on eBay: Volume 69
We've been compiling some amazing Porsche models on eBay for over two years now, and we've seen some pretty astonishing cars pop up now and again. We recently started publishing our picks once a week instead of our prior bi-weekly schedule, in an effort to bring you more exciting Porsche auction action. Check back often for different cars! This week we have a good diversity of selections. An oddball replica built on the back of an old 993 is our highlight of the week, but it's backed up by a hotrod 964, a rare 991, a rare 911 Cabriolet project-car starter, and a rare 964. Keep in mind, some of these cars could be great collection investments, while others might prove to do more financial harm than good.

Motor Trend's Best Driver's Car: Porsche Carrera S Squares Off Against The Best
The Porsche 911 family has long punched above its weight. When it launched in the mid 1960s, displacing just 2.0l, the 911 gained a reputation as a giant slayer on the race track. In 2016 the story is very much the same. The new 3.0l Carrera S isn't even the top of the 911 range, yet Motor Trend set it against some of the most fearsome driver's cars from the world of enthusiast automobiles. In one of their finest video efforts yet, Motor Trend shows how even a humble 911 stacks up against some of the most steroidal sports cars on the planet.

The Michelin Choice Award at WERKS Reunion: Why We Picked This RSR Replica as the Winner

A couple of weeks ago we got a message from Michelin asking if we'd like to judge on their behalf during the PCA's WERKS Reunion Porsche concours, a pretty big part of Monterey Car Week. Ready for any challenge, of course we said we'd be honored to do so. Michelin Tires is one of the main sponsors of WERKS [and here at FLATSIXES.com], and as such the event organizers have a trophy every year called the Michelin Choice Award. Rather than award the trophy themselves, Michelin prefers to bring someone in to act as a "celebrity judge" on their behalf. Having recently gone to Le Mans with Michelin, they knew how Porsche crazy we are, and that we'd do a good job of selecting the proper car for the award. Our only guideline was to select a Porsche that 'embodies passion and driving enjoyment' and it must be wearing Michelin tires. Here's the Porsche we picked and why

Porsche Unveils New Half-Lego 919 Hybrid Sculpture at COTA

Last year at Le Mans, Porsche unveiled a sculpture that was half Porsche 911 RSR race car and half LEGO sculpture. It was a really interesting piece, and it made the rounds to a few events, including Rennsport Reunion. This year, a similar sculpture has been crafted, but this time out of a 919 Hybrid LMP1 car. How many LEGO bricks did it take to build? How many Master Builders participated? Why was its debut delayed? How much do all those LEGO bricks weigh anyway? We answer those questions and more in this post

Not A Porsche: Leh Keen in an Ariel Nomad
Yes, this is a Porsche dedicated site. However, first and foremost we are car enthusiasts. That's why, when we saw this video from our friends at eGarage we just knew we had to share it.  Not only does it feature our friend, and professional Porsche driver, Leh Keen, the driving, hooning and production quality are just incredible. The Porsche link might be tenuous, but we think you'll enjoy it just the same.

Here's A Great Resource To Lookup That Porsche Part Number You're Trying to Find
It doesn't matter if you're performing your own routine maintenance or working on a full blown restoration, you're going to need parts for your Porsche. How easy or how hard it is to find those parts depends a great deal on your ability to provide your preferred supplier with a part number. The problem lies in the fact that not all parts, on all models, are stamped with a part number. Here's a great resource to help you locate that part number to give to your parts supplier

Porsche 959 on BaT: Ushering in a New Era
We've seen this 959 before, on eBay of all places. As we noted earlier this month eBay may not have been the best choice for the retro-supercar, and the seller's choice to move to Bring a Trailer says a lot about the site's growth and the market. Up to this point Bring a Trailer's auction record was held by a Lancia Aurelia Cabriolet which sold in January, though historically Porsches have consistently performed well on the popular auction site. The leap from a survivor 356 to one of the most iconic supercars of all time is a big one, but strong initial bids make it look like BaT is up to the task. Here's more info on the 959 itself with a link to the auction and the current bid

Golf Pro Alexander Levy Misses Shot at Winning New Porsche by Inches
Last week's Porsche European Open was filled with lots of great golf, competition and a play-off ending. However, two of the most exciting moments both centered around Par-3 holes (the 14th and the 17th) where a near-miss caused heartache and another ace resulted in an unexpected surprise.  Details and video in this post

Porsche Stories From Around The Web
Despite our best efforts, it's not always possible for us to cover everything that's happening in the world of Porsche at any given time. It's almost as if the items worthy of note increase at some exponential rate as compared to the number of new Porsche owners and fans.  With that in mind, from time to time, we'll bring you a round-up of other Porsche related stories you might find of interest and link you to them.  If you read a story somewhere, or know of one you think might be of interest to our readers, please be sure to let us know by sending us a tip to storyideas@flatsixes.com
