All told Porsche produced 59 917s*. Over the course of the model's run it came in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. With turbochargers, without turbochargers, short tail, long tail, with and without a roof. The 917's history is so varied, it even raced a decade after its heyday under the Kremer banner. With such a wide array of 917s built and rebuilt following crashes and development, the provenance of each example is difficult to follow. We use the video of Mark Finburgh's 917 (used in the filming of the movie Le Mans), as a lead-in to look at the history and status of the other 917s used during filming.  Details in this post.

Porsche's LMP1 Results From the Le Mans Pre-Test

Despite the official pre-test being cut short due to an accident late in the day, Porsche still managed to cover nearly 2,358 kilometers in seven and a half hours of testing.  How did the two 919s compare to their competition and where will they start on the grid. Thankfully, it's been quite some time since we've seen an accident of this magnitude involving such precious cargo. The last time was when a train wreck damaged at least 20 brand new Porsche 997s. Before that, it was the cringe worthy accident involving an unlucky truckload of vintage 356s (including a Speedster or two) and a fast moving train. Both accidents pulled at the heart strings of most Porsche fans. This time, we get word from Germany of an accident involving a car carrier loaded with 7 new Porsche Cayman GT4s.
