There has been considerable discussion lately regarding the state of the Porsche collector market and whether it has hit its peak and is starting to trend down. Most of that discussion revolves around the reduced sales numbers (year over year) from Scottsdale and Paris. However, what no one seems to be talking about, or even suggesting, is that maybe the lower sales numbers are a simple result of poor quality offerings.  A rising tide might lift all boats, but at some point people wise up and there simply hasn't been a huge number of top level, top quality Porsches up for auction so far. That's about to change this weekend on Amelia Island. Here's a run down on each Porsche set to cross the auction block complete with price estimates.

Many of you were familiar with some of Porsche's history having to do with light aircraft and flying.  However, how many of you know that a purpose built Porsche 356 engine was used to power an experimental helicopter of sorts that the Marine Corps planned to evaluate for "observation, liaison and small unit tactical maneuvers"?  We sure didn't. However, thanks to Leonard Turner and his massive archive of Porsche based photos we not only have the image above, but some history behind the Porsche powered helicopter that might have been.  Can you add to what we know? Most of us that have driven on the track know that the proper seating position is essential to maintain optimal control of our Porsches.  But what about driving on the street? The driver's position is just as important there to ensure you have the most control and can get the most feedback and feel from your Porsche.  So, how do you find that perfect position? Where should your arms be? How far forward should the seat come up? Should your legs be straight out when pushing in the clutch or using the pedals?
